Long Beach City Council City Council Meeting
The meeting involved the approval of a settlement agreement regarding a legal matter between an individual and the city. The primary agenda item focused on a proposed ordinance to amend the Municipal Code concerning the Rules of Council. This proposal sought to restructure public comment periods, including moving them to the beginning of the meeting and establishing a 90-minute limit, citing efficiency and comparisons to other regional government practices. Extensive public testimony was heard, with many speakers expressing opposition to the changes on the grounds that they would hinder civic engagement, limit resident access to legislative discussions, and impact the ability of the public to participate effectively in local governance.
